Jessie James Decker........................Born Jessica Rose James, Decker's somewhat exotic birthplace was a product of her being raised in a military family. At the age of nine years old, her family was living in Louisiana which was where she took home an annual regional talent competition with a cover of Patsy Montana's "I Want to Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart. Decker was moving to Georgia when she was 15. Once she began writing regularly, she went to Nashville and visited music companies and record labels in the hope of securing a contract. She was just 17 when she gained the attention of an independent label representative Big Yellow Dog Records who began selling her tracks to labels and artists. Decker was signed to a deal to sign a deal with Island/Def Jam after Mercury Records' president David Massey passed her demos to L.A. Reid, head of Island/Def Jam. Jessie James, her moniker for the album she debuted with that title on August 9, 2009 was her own self-titled. Jessie James had a moderately popular debut album. Wanted, a song that was on the album made it to the Top 40 singles chart. Decker was always viewed as a traditional country artist, but the album's marketing and production was geared towards a more pop-oriented audience. Her music came under increased scrutinization following the release in the form of two hits. The following track, Boys in the Summer had a country feel. The second album that Decker released under the title Daughter of a Gypsy or Sweet American Dreams was shelved by Mercury and after three singles failed on the charts for country. Decker was let go of her contract.
